I have had chickens since 2018. I live in New England where we don’t have long summers so I order my chicks in the spring. That way they have plenty of time to mature before the cold weather starts again. I have no basement or garage so I had to keep my first 3 “batches” of chicks in my dining room for 6 weeks. ( Don’t worry- we don’t eat there when we have chicks). At the end of the 6 weeks, I would have to deep clean the whole room to get rid of the dust. I hated it. I read an online article about raising chicks outdoors. I bought this heater and it is AMAZING! My chicks moved outside at 10 days old ( into a separate chick coop/run that is attached but closed off from to the big girls’ run) Temps were down in the 50s at night, but they were fine. All 3 huddled together under the heater. They came out during the day, but would duck back under if they got chilly. I will never go back to raising chicks indoors. Do yourself a favor and buy one.

This really does work so well. And we were not worried about it catching fire like the bulb ones, if it were to fall into the brooder. We enjoyed watching the chicks spread out and relax under it. And it was entertaining to watch them jump up and slide down. No poop on this heater!!!

I was so glad to get rid of the heat lamp and I think the chicks were too. I had to put them directly under it a few times but they figured it out quickly. They immediately started sleeping through the night where previously they would wake up several times. I honestly think this speeded up their feather growth also.

Easy setup. Can be angled. Chicks love it. Temp and power protection. Cut my power usage by 90% and eliminated worry about burning my babies or my home. Much much better than a heat bulb except that you can't see the kids when they're beneath it. Very happy with the product right down to the pyramid top to keep them from pooping on it.

Perfect for my baby chicks!

I got my first chicks several weeks ago, and decided to go with this heating plate for them. It worked well, got warm enough, I love the adjustable legs, and the anti roost cone worked perfectly. I would only caution that while this was wonderful for 10 baby chicks, as they grew it was no longer big enough for them all. They are outside now and no longer need heat, so it got them through, but I’ll get a larger one next time.

The media could not be loaded. My first chicks that I got back in March, we used a heat lamp and had them in our guest bedroom for 8 weeks. Thank God nothing happened due to the heat lamp, but didn't want to use one again after reading the horror stories from house and coop fires. This time we did the brooder in our coop with this heat plate. It's amazing and gives me a piece of mind. I got 7, one day old chicks from a local hatchery and they all fit under it comfortably. Since they're in the coop during the summer it's consistently in the 80s and 90s during the day so they arent underneath it as much, but as it drops to the 70s at night they all huddle under it and stay nice and warm. I love the cone that fits on top because as they get older it'll keep them off of it so they can't make a mess. It also gets pretty tall so as they get older the legs can be raised. I may not need it much after 4 weeks since they're out in the coop during summer, but for the meantime and when I get more chicks down the road I will use this everytime!

The media could not be loaded. It works amazingly. I’ve had baby chicks in the past and used the infrared light bulb. Way more work than to use this brooder plate. I followed the instructions implicitly and found that the chicks know what’s best for them. You don’t need to keep tabs on the temperature, just set it up like the instructions say and the chicks will be happy. My chicks are different sizes, so by making the plate tilt, the smaller chicks go into the lower part. The chicks were so quiet this morning, I was worried about them. I checked in the brooder and found they were all sleeping. They come out and play and go back under the plate to warm up, then come running out to continue their playing. No loud chirping, just their sweet little sounds they make. Great investment!
